The Dragonfly Sea by Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor
This Friday (1st March) Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor will launch her second novel, The Dragonfly Sea at Prestige Bookshop. A befitting homecoming to a Kenyan literary star, this will be the first launch of the book anywhere in the world. The event will take place between 5 and 7 in the evening.
The Dragonfly Sea is a prodigious achievement. Told with a compelling lyricism that is typical of her previous works, the novel is a coming of age story that draws from the past to illuminate events that happen in the present.
It is the story of Ayaana, a precocious girl who lives in the Lamu archipelago of Pate. Her life, like the sea that continually beckons her, is filled with tumult and adventure. The sea makes her yearn for what is beyond and it brings her back home, it churns improbable adventure into her life and makes her discover her complex and intriguing past.
The Dragonfly Sea takes the story of a young girl in Pate and shows us the world, it expands our ideas of home and history.
